NSW Government will wait for independent report before progressing main work on Albury Hospital
The NSW Government has confirmed it will hold off awarding the tender for the ‘main work construction’ on Albury Hospital until the Auditor General’s independent examination is completed later this year.
Albury-based NSW Greens spokesperson for Health Dr Amanda Cohn wrote to the Auditor-General in June 2025 requesting an audit of the planned redevelopment of the Albury Hospital.
Today Dr Cohn questioned NSW Health Minister Ryan Park about the report to which he said: “We won’t be doing the main contractor work before that AG’s report is handed down.”
“It’s a significant win for the Albury community that the NSW Government is now willing to consider independent advice on the hospital redevelopment before barrelling ahead with it," Dr Cohn said.
The Minister confirmed that while the contract for the initial plans will be awarded, the tender for the major works would not be awarded until after the report is released.
The audit, announced in May 2026, will consider whether NSW Health's planning and delivery of major capital works is effective in meeting demand for health services, including specific examination of the Albury hospital redevelopment. This includes assessment of capital planning and prioritisation, business case development and project management and delivery.
“We deserve a hospital that meets the needs of our regional community, not a redevelopment based on an arbitrary funding commitment by the previous government that keeps being scaled back,” Dr Cohn said.
By contrast, the Minns Labor government has recently expanded the redevelopment of Blacktown hospital, with the Minister stating “to my dismay, they [the former Coalition government] built a hospital shy of what needed to be built in one of the fastest growing areas in the country, so we’ve had to expand that.”
“The Greens have been pressuring the government since day one to do the right thing and deliver the hospital that our region needs,” Dr Cohn said.
Dr Cohn also asked the Health Minister why they won’t release the business case for the hospital redevelopment. He said he understands releasing the business case is ‘perhaps important to people on the ground in Albury’ and would look at how he could release more information.
