END PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS

Let's take profit-making corporations out of our public hospitals.

Maggots falling from the ceiling, mould in the air vents, dirty water in the tanks, sanitary pads soaking up leaking water. These are just some of the issues raised at the inquiry into Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle. This is the outcome of a public private partnership, which means the responsibility for managing the hospital is shared between the NSW Government and a consortium of private profit-making business who keep passing the buck.

But Calvary Mater is not the only hospital flailing under a public-private partnership model. There are many health services around the state that operate under this flawed model where patients are not at the centre of care; investors are.

It took a toddler's death at the Northern Beaches Hospital for the NSW Government to step up and take the hospital back into public hands. What will it take for the NSW Government to end all partnerships with for-profit providers for the delivery of health care?
