NSW Greens condemn government legal action against paramedics fighting for fair wage
NSW Greens MPs Amanda Cohn and Jenny Leong have labelled the NSW Government’s legal action against paramedics over their fight for a fair wage a disgrace.
Today, the NSW Government has taken the Australian Paramedics Association (APA) to the Industrial Relations Commission over planned industrial action.
Quotes attributable to Dr Amanda Cohn MLC, NSW Greens spokesperson for Health:
“It’s hard to believe a Labor Government that made big promises for essential workers before the election has resorted to fighting paramedics in court over fair pay and conditions.
“The Minns Labor Government is putting patients at risk across the state by paying paramedics the worst wage in the country. That's why paramedics are taking action.
“The Minns Labor Government has managed to pay our teachers the best wage in the country and pay police trainees while they study. Where is the same support for paramedics?
“There are fewer than 5000 paramedics in NSW. Paramedics deserve pay and conditions that reflect their expert skills and value they provide the people of NSW.”
Quotes attributable to Jenny Leong MP, NSW Greens spokesperson for Industrial Relations:
“We know NSW Paramedics have the worst pay deal in the country. The NSW Labor Government should be acting to fix this - not taking them to court to shut down their industrial action.
“Paramedics are essential workers who - like all workers - deserve fair pay and conditions. The Greens will always stand with workers who are fighting for a fair wage and support their right to strike and take other industrial action.”
